Motor vehicle accidents happen all the time.  When these accidents involve trucks and tractor-trailers, drivers and passengers often sustain injuries that are catastrophic or even fatal.  The reason truck and tractor-trailer accidents often result in serious injuries is because of the size of the trucks and tractor-trailers.  Impacts are harder, the damage is greater and the injuries are more serious, especially when they happen on highways, such as the NJ Turnpike or the AC Expressway.

Just in the last month, there were 3 fatal truck accidents in NJ.  On August 9, 2013, a 61 year old man sustained serious injuries and was in critical condition after a 4 truck crash on the New Jersey Turnpike. The man sustained critical head injuries.

In the same week, a mother and her 2 children were killed after their SUV collided with a tractor-trailer in Lawrence Township, NJ.   According to a news report, the tractor-trailer made an illegal u-turn.  The family’s SUV hit the trailer so hard that the SUV was mangled, and the mother and her children were trapped in the SUV.  The tractor-trailer driver has been charged with 3 counts of death by an automobile.

Then just this week, a man died in a crash involving a farm tractor, tanker truck and a car in Winslow Township, Camden County, NJ.

Tractor-trailer drivers often drive to unfamiliar destinations to make deliveries and may get lost.  When they get lost, it is easy for them to get distracted when attempting to get back on the correct route.   For example, they may make a u-turn and not see the sign that prohibits u-turns on the road and cause serious accidents, like the accident mentioned above.

Injured drivers and passengers from truck and/or tractor-trailer accidents in NJ may recover different types of damages from the drivers at fault, such as:

  • pain and suffering;
  • medical bills (past and future);
  • lost wages; and
  • other out of pocket expenses.
